How does it work?
Pain is a very personal and subjective experience. It is the body's warning system when it is sick or injured. Some times however, nerve signals can malfunction causing long lasting pain even though the body is healed.
When you feel pain, a signal is being generated in the nerves at the perceived pain location. These signals travel through your nerves, up the spinal cord to the brain. The signal then interacts with thesomatosensory cortex (responsible for physical sensation), the frontal cortex (in charge of thinking), and the limbic system (linked to emotions). These combined create the perception of pain almost instantly.
So even though the signals may have started somewhere else in the body, technically you only feel pain in your mind. So when someone says "it's all in your head" technically they are right. Of course, knowing this doesn't make it any less real and this is where hypnosis can help alleviate the pain.
Hypnosis works by changing the way your brain associates with the pain signals from the nervous system. Essentially, refiling pain signals in the mind to something more desirable. This can reduce your perception of pain significantly or eradicate it entirely.
At Frankston Hypnotherapy Clinic, we will not only work with you to ease your suffering, we will teach you the self hypnosis techniques to use on yourself to keep the pain away for good.
